Onesti 12.07.2005:

After 40 hours of torrential rain the rivers in the Bacau district gained impressive force and started ravaging whatever came in there path! These pictures only show the damage in Onesti but the villages close to Onesti show much bigger damage. We could not get to them!

In Onesti:

13.07 – main gas pipe gone; this started a bread crisis(hundreds of people in line for 1-2 breads);

- no electricity for about 2 hours;

- the city was cut-off from the rest of the world;

- 2 bridges in the water, taken by the water, with at least two more damaged, including the one the trains needed to get into Onesti;

- flooded streets and houses collapsed;

- many more;

This damage was caused by the Casin and Trotus river. We did not see the Taslau river!

MORE IMPORTANTLY:

Onesti is ok now, but some people were evacuated by helicopter, as the Siret river si as big as the Danube!!!!! Whole villages are being erased! People are loosing their lives, and more are loosing their homes, and they have nobody to turn to. Some villages have been evacuated by helicopter before the torent came. Dames can’t hold the water, as it is poring over them. Details are hard to give!

We wish to help these people but we need a lot of help! If you want to help these people in any way, please contact us, or contact somebody you know can help you help them. Spread the word to anybody that can help. Think about if you were in that position, seeing where you grew up disappear, and seeing everything you depend on vanish!

TENS of vilages are 4-5 meters under water. This is all along the path of the Siret river. People are beeing saved with botes and helicopters, by the hundreds. You have to be compleatly heartless not to cry seeing these scenes. Dead animals will probably cause deseases all over. The Bacau district alone has 12 vilages isolated or compleetly under water. These stats are aproximately the same in Hunedoara, Vrancea and Galati. There is a STATE OF EMERGENCY, even if the state hasn't declared it yet, because of the gouvernamental change. THIS HASN"T HAPPEND IN OVER 500(five hundred) YEARS!!!!!!!!!! If you want a similarity, think about the tsunami in the Philipines! Arial photos are stuning, because tehre is nothing but water for tens of square kilometers. Roads and bridges GONE! Sick peoople are now left dead in their houses, because they could not escape in time, and cofins will soon surface. The risk of desease is growing! We can not put into words what we saw.
